California wildfires spread to 70,000 acres

A massive wildfire that has been raging in the US state of California for three days has already spread to more than 70,000 acres. Hundreds of firefighters are working to control the fire.

AFP reported from Los Angeles that the fire, called the 'Madre Fire', broke out on Wednesday in San Luis Obispo County, a rural area in California.

About 200 people have already been evacuated from many buildings at risk of fire. On Friday, the state firefighting agency - Cal Fire - said that the fire has spread to 70,800 acres so far. More than 600 workers and 40 fire engines have been deployed to bring it under control.

This is the largest fire in California this year. A fire caused major damage in Los Angeles early last year.
